Cyber Resilience, The Undiscovered Country

Strand 12B HYATT REGENCY NEW ORLEANS

Cyber Resiliency is a relatively new use case of operational resilience. It has some unique requirements compared to your disaster recovery plans and your high availability requirements. It may share some of the same technologies but the requirements for isolating the data and having immutable copies presents some unique challenges. Do you have the time for a full system recovery or can you require selective applications or even data sets? If you have to do a catastrophic recovery, do you know which data sets were open at the time of the copy? How can you selectively recover those data sets? This session will discuss these challenges and how to overcome them using IBM Z Batch Resiliency.

Stormy Monday. Reactive and Preventive Capacity Management Processes

Strand 2

Monday has been a typical day where application outages occured. Often, due tot he complexity of the enterprise, Tuesday and the rest of the week were just the same! We will discuss how effective capacity management reporting is used to quickly return the business to service. What reporting should be reviewed and communicated in the first moments of an outage? What additional performance reporting is critical to resolving an incident? What reporting and capacity management processes contribute to improvements to the resiliency of the enterprise? What are some of the forecast variances that occur in predicting future capacity? Who is responsible for resolution? How should capacity management reporting be effectively used in the post-mortem process.

Understanding the Five IBM z/OS Cloud Storage Solutions

Empire D HYATT REGENCY NEW ORLEANS

Cloud Object Storage can help you lower your TCO for data storage. During this session, the speakers will explore the many IBM options for utilizing cloud object storage as another storage tier for your z/OS data, with a primary focus on Cyber Resiliency solutions. Discover the many alternatives for integrating it into your environment, whether it is through IBM storage only (TS7700), DFSMS in combination with storage (DFSMShsm/dss, DS8900, TS7700), OAM for unstructured data, software only with Cloud Tape Connector, or a combination of them all!

Efficient and Cost-Effective Data Management on z/OS with SQLite

Strand 13A HYATT REGENCY NEW ORLEANS

SQLite is a popular open-source database management system that is widely used in the software industry. Despite being developed for use on small-scale applications, SQLite has proven to be a versatile and reliable solution for larger applications. One area where SQLite can offer unique benefits is in mainframe environments, where traditional relational database systems such as Db2 can be expensive and resource intensive. This presentation will explore the benefits of using SQLite on z/OS. We will cover the basics of SQLite and its capabilities, as well as the challenges and benefits of running SQLite on z/OS. We will also discuss best practices for setting up and managing SQLite on z/OS, including performance tuning, security considerations, and integration with other mainframe applications. We will describe our own experiences implementing SQLite in a z/OS product. Performance metrics of SQLite under real world conditions will be shown including DASD and CPU usage. By the end of this presentation, attendees will have a clear understanding of the advantages of using SQLite on z/OS, and will be equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to start implementing SQLite solutions in their own mainframe environments.
